PAST LIFE THERAPY
Are Past Lives Real?
Many people ask me whether I believe that Past Lives really exist and when I first began this work, nearly 25 years ago, I was still a sceptic. In the field of psychology, there is an assumption that information that comes up during the exploration of past life memories, may just be the subconscious mind creating a metaphor to help the person understand their problems from a dissociated perspective. However, after conducting many thousands of sessions, I can honestly say I disagree; I definitely believe they are real. I have acquired enough evidence to convince me they do exist and that it is possible to remember them. My own evidence is backed up by the incredible research of Dr Ian Stevenson, a Psychiatry professor at the university of Virginia. He collected evidence from nearly 3000 children, from all over the world, who were spontaneously recalling their past lives. (You can see examples of this on my video page) He was able to prove, without doubt, that what they were experiencing was a recall of a life they had lived before; many of them even had birthmarks that matched the cause of death from their previous incarnations. I have written about much of the evidence I found in my book Healing with Past Life Therapy - published by Inner Traditions.
Why should people explore them?
More important than whether they exist or not is whether it is helpful to explore them... many modern day spiritual teachers tell you that it is important to focus on the 'Now' and being in the present... and I agree. However, if there is unfinished business, unresolved issues and karma that needs to be addressed - then living in the 'Now' is not so much fun. Life will continue to bring up events and people who are reminders of the healing work that needs to be done; patterns may keep repeating themselves; fears keep surfacing - albeit in different ways; limiting beliefs keep getting in the way and physical problems that cannot be explained by the medical profession continue to persist. If people feel as though they are constantly having to struggle through life and that they are feeling blocked or stuck then this type of therapeutic exploration into the past may be exactly what is needed.
How does it work?
I like to think of myself as a bit of a spiritual detective... whose sole mission is to get people to a place where they are at peace both within; inside the mind - and without; in the everyday world. This can only happen when people clear away the baggage they have brought with them from other lives. This can be accessed via the subconscious with a guide who knows how to access the place where the information is stored. In the session, people are guided into hypnosis, which is merely a deep state of relaxation, similar to daydreaming. It is easy to achieve, perfectly natural and people go into this state many times in a day. In hypnosis people never lose control and always know what is happening to them. The therapist acts as guide, navigator, or can be described as a spiritual Sat Nav; they know the route and what is needed along the way. In this state people are able to gain access to memories that are stored away in the deepest reaches of the mind. Past life sessions generally take around three hours, in order to really understand the meaning behind the life and heal what needs to be healed.
What is the difference between past life therapy and past life regression?
Some therapists will take people in to their past lives just to see who they used to be. Some use the insights they gain as the healing element. In my experience this can potentially be detrimental to a persons well being. When the memory of a past life is brought to the surface it uncovers energy, emotions and can reveal issues that were left undone - this can have repercussions on a persons life. It won't do any permanent damage but may lead to feelings of unease at the unconscious level if the information isn't processed in the right way.
What happens in the session?
The session gives people time to establish their goals for the work and for the process to be explained. The past life recall is similar to the recall of a holiday, people may not remember it all but key elements jump out. Some people see things clearly, as if a movie is unfolding before them... except that they are experiencing all of the emotions and feelings the person had; good and bad. Some people don't see anything at all but hear answers when questions are asked - and some people feel or have a knowing about the experience. There is no right or wrong way - it is different for everyone.
Once the details of the life are clear, the person moves to the end of the life, where the healing part of the session begins. They discover the last thoughts and feelings at the end of the life which are still impacting the present life. For example, if they experienced fear, regret or anger, this is held in the energy field and continues to affect the soul as it moves on. In the healing part of the session people communicate with the souls who were with them in the life and discover what they had agreed to be tested on, what contracts they have in place and what purpose they served. They find ways to complete the lessons, and rewrite them with new mission statements in their place. This has a profound effect on the persons future experiences - especially as they often realise who the people from their past lives are in this lifetime. They don't look the same but are recognisable by their personality or their energy. It is clear that souls from the same group reconnect in lifetime after lifetime and to assist or to challenge. The new agreements transform situations and relationships in powerful ways. The session also looks at karmic lessons to see what, if anything, needs to be resolved ensuring that all negative karma is cleared.
What kind of impact can a session like this have?
The session is designed to help people gain valuable insights into their present life conditions, relationships and the beliefs they hold about self and key choices made in this life. The new found information helps people move on and live life with a greater sense of clarity.
How many sessions do people need?
One session is enough for people to get access to their past lives and to clear specific issues they wish to deal with. It is possible to experience more than one life at a time, although this is not necessary. Further sessions are completely at the persons discretion. it depends on how much exploration they want to make into their past and how many issues they would like to explore.
Are there any negative side effects?
Even though intense emotions may be experienced and traumatic lifetimes may emerge - the session always ends with the client feeling relieved and unburdened. Re-living past lives in a safe and nurturing way can provide profound healing as well as healing and releasing phobias, improving relationships and enhancing physical and emotional well-being.
Do people always have to explore lifetimes that need healing?
No. it is possible to access positive lives to reclaim resources, knowledge, skills and positive traits too. However, most sessions do have a therapeutic element. Throughout different incarnations souls may pick up negative emotions and unhelpful personal beliefs in their karmic evolution. Past life therapy allows for self-discovery and self-awareness. The positive insights gained can be applied to events, situations and relationships in the present life. On my media page there is a free recording designed to take people into a positive past life - if you do have any powerful experiences listening to this please do let me know. I always love to hear peoples stories.
Can everyone access their past lives?
Yes. With the right person, at the right time and when done in the right way. The unconscious mind is the storehouse of all thoughts, feelings, experiences and accumulated knowledge. Everything that has ever been experienced, in every lifetime, is recorded in the memory banks of the mind. Remembering past lives is a natural process that involves two main qualities; curiosity and a comfortable and relaxing state of hypnosis. This is all that is needed to open up the memories and allow people to remember.
Do people remember what happens?
Yes. People will usually remember everything from the session and it will be recorded. A written transcript and audio copy is sent by email.
How long do the effects last for?
Many people report that their lives are never the same again... in the best possible way.
