Working with the Mind - An Integrated Approach to Change
Much of my work is influenced by Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), a field I studied and worked within extensively over many years - including nearly seven years spent on the assisting team of Paul McKenna and Richard Bandler. While I no longer practise NLP as a standalone modality, its principles continue to inform and shape the way I work. It forms part of a broader, integrative approach - combining practical techniques with deeper transformational processes.
How Change Happens
At its core, this work is about understanding how your internal world shapes your external experience. The way you think, the meaning you give to events, and the patterns you repeat all influence how you feel and behave. For meaningful change to occur, it is important to:

How Change Happens
At its core, this work is about understanding how your internal world shapes your external experience. The way you think, the meaning you give to events, and the patterns you repeat all influence how you feel and behave. For meaningful change to occur, it is important to:
- Understand where you are now
- Recognise what is and isn’t working
- Become clear about what you want instead
The Role of the Subconscious Mind
Much of what drives behaviour operates below conscious awareness. Your subconscious mind holds:
- Past experiences
- Learned behaviours
- Emotional responses
- Beliefs about yourself and the world
- Access helpful internal resources
- Shift limiting beliefs
- Create new, more supportive patterns
Accessing Inner ResourcesEverything you need to create change already exists within you. Through guided processes, you can:
- Reconnect with past experiences of strength and success
- Reframe earlier experiences in a more empowering way
- Develop new responses to familiar situations
Focused Awareness & ChangeA key part of this work involves entering a state of focused attention - often experienced as deep relaxation. In this state:
- The mind becomes more receptive
- Imagination becomes more vivid
- Insight becomes more accessible
- Let go of unhelpful patterns
- Mentally rehearse new ways of being
- Create lasting change at a deeper level
The Mind–Body ConnectionLasting transformation involves alignment across three key areas:
- Thoughts & Language
The way you speak to yourself and interpret your experience - Internal Imagery
The mental pictures you create about your past and future - Physiology
How your body responds - posture, breathing, and physical state
Creating Meaningful ChangeIf a pattern of thinking, feeling, or behaving is no longer serving you - it can be changed. Through this integrative approach, you are supported to:
- Gain awareness of what is holding you back
- Shift the patterns that no longer serve you
- Create a more aligned and empowered way of being
When you understand how your mind works - you gain the ability to work with it, rather than against it. And from there, change becomes not only possible - but natural.
